Retatrutide Trial Updates 2026

We discussed Retatrutide a couple of months ago. Eli Lilly’s latest statement regarding its trials for the drug Retatrutide claims positive results from its Phase 3 data for those with type 2 diabetes. Overall, Lilly expects additional Phase 3 data in 2026 across the TRIUMPH program (covering obesity, diabetes, liver disease, chronic low back pain, and maintenance dosing). As of now:

• June 2023: Phase 2

  • A trial for obesity or overweight without type 2 diabetes, showing a mean 17.5% body-weight reduction at 24 weeks at 1-12mg doses.

  • MASLD/liver disease trial (NCT06859268) is expected to report results in 2026 

• Predicted December 2026: TRIUMPH-5 

  • A comparator study in type 2 diabetes, benchmarking retatrutide against an active comparator rather than placebo.

• Predicted 2027: TRIUMPH-7

  • A Phase 3 trial evaluating retatrutide in adults with obesity/overweight and chronic low back pain.

• Predicted 2028–2029: TRIUMPH-CVOT

  • A trial on cardiovascular and kidney outcomes (CVOT).

All of these are based on Eli Lilly reports and research. Retatrutide is not FDA approved. A New Drug Application (NDA) filing is expected in Q4 2026, with an FDA decision in 2027 or later.
