Sleep Quality Boosts the Immune System

Right now, keeping your immune system strong is of utmost priority. The good news is that each pillar of your program—nutrition, exercise, sleep—is designed to support your body’s defenses. Today, let’s take a deeper look at the role of sleep in particular, and how you can optimize it. Research findings you may be surprised to learn:

  • Studies have shown people sleeping <6 hours a night are 4x more likely to catch a cold compared to those who were logging 7+ hours of sleep.

  • Poor sleep has also been shown to impact the effectiveness of vaccines. People sleeping <6 hours, on average, were less likely to show the antibody response a vaccine is designed to trigger.

  • People who are sleep deprived are not only more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus, but their bodies take longer to recover when they’re hit with an illness.

What you can do now:

  • Practice good sleep hygiene: stick to a consistent bedtime, unwind with a relaxing activity (reading, meditation), don’t look at screens before bed, and avoid heavy meals at night.

  • Check your Foundational Plan in your Apeiron Life app for dozens of evidence-based recommendations. Each week you can pick a new one to practice.

  • Wear your Oura Ring sleep tracker to measure your sleep quality and quantity. We’ll provide you with weekly feedback and recommendations based on your data. If you’re not yet using one, contact your Apeiron Life concierge. An Oura Ring is included in your Core program.
