Like many chronic illnesses, dementia is caused by a multitude of factors, some of which are out of your control, like aging, your genetics, gender, and ethnicity.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything to tilt the odds in your favor. Recent research has identified 12 risk factors that could potentially delay or prevent 40% of dementia cases worldwide. Take a look:
Not all of these might be relevant to you at this moment, but there are several important habits you can practice today. Many of the recommendations are right in line with your Apeiron Life program.
Exercise consistently. Not only does it directly support brain health, exercise also helps manage your blood pressure and weight. Log your workouts in the Apeiron Life app to see how you track against your personal target.
Choose meals that follow a Mediterranean pattern, which research has linked to lower dementia risk. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, unsaturated oils, and plant proteins.
Drink alcohol mindfully and in moderation. We recommend no more than one drink a day for both men and women.
Invest extra time in your social life. Reconnect with an old friend or make consistent plans with your current ones.
If you think other risk factors, like hearing loss or depression, might apply to you, please discuss them with your Apeiron Life expert. We can facilitate a conversation with your healthcare provider or a specialist.
